This puzzle was designed by Dan Feldman and marketed by Phillip Dubois who included the Taruah as one of the Gaby Games, which Phillip named after his newborn daughter Gabriel. "Taruah" stands for "Tahanat Ruah" which in Hebrew means Wind Mill.
Dan Feldman is a long time puzzle collector and designer. His main puzzle interests are 3d interlocking puzzles, nail puzzles, and puzzle locks. His most well known puzzle lock is called DanLock.
The Taruah puzzle consists of twelve pieces (3 x 3 cm x 21 cm long); there are ten identical pieces, and two which are mirror images of the ten. The indentations are each 3 cm wide and 1.5 cm deep. Opposite is an example of one of the pieces. Make the two mirror-image pieces as follows: from two pieces of wood, saw the two outer indentations as you did for the first ten pieces, but saw the middle indentation on the opposite side.
When you have sawn and filed the twelve pieces, you can start to solve the puzzle. Here's a hint. The completed puzzle has 6 sides and fits exactly into a cube which has edges 21 cm long. All sides are equal and are composed of crosses. The crosses fit together to form a symmetric whole.
