Alphametics
Alphametics, also called cryptarithms, are arithmetic puzzles in which
numbers are replaced by letters. Each letter distinctly represents one digit between 9 and
zero. These equations should make sense as phrases or sentences. The resulting word can be
obtained from addition, subtraction, division, or multiplication of the words above the
line. For an alphametic to be truly elegant, it should have a unique solution. But this is
not always the case.
