This wonderful trick from
the mind of Martin Gardner, who also is a magician, will
amaze you. Initially the trick was done with a dollar
bill, but I use a piece of paper 4 cm wide and 30 cm
long. Attach the paper clips as shown in the illustration opposite. When the ends of the strip are pulled apart quickly, the paper clips should become connected. With a longer paper strip it is possible to attach more than two paper clips and get them to become connected. Sometimes the paper clips fail to connect, but just try it again and you will get the hang of it. Although this is not really a puzzle, it is very puzzling how the paper clips become connected.
